Finding the Deep Voice Workshop
Have you ever read a poem that makes the air tingle and you wonder how the writer did it? One way is through the power of the deep voice. In this workshop, you will learn how to write through the discovery of your inner voice—that unique person that lives in the language of your speech. Whether you’re writing poetry, stories, plays, or memoirs, find out how to write true to your own voice and style, true to your own vision and point of view, and true to your own life experience. The Method Writing techniques you will learn were developed by award-winning LA poet Jack Grapes. Writing exercises.
We Did It For You! Women’s Journey Through History Workshop
There was a time when women had no rights in America. We Did It For You! Women’s Journey Through History tells the story of how it changed, told by the women who were there. Participants take on the roles in this play-reading workshop. We then discuss how these foremothers broke out of cultural constraints in spite of patriarchal domination. High schoolers, college students, and adults have found this workshop educational, inspirational, and riveting. Lily Ledbetter (of the Fair Pay Act) said history presented like this is ‘so much better than just reading about the women in a book.’ Paul Williams said it is ‘a multi-century parade of feminine genius and courage … told with humor and fun.’
What’s Your Carbon Footprint?
Our ancient brains respond best to immediate threats, so it is easy to ignore climate change. While it doesn’t seem to have the urgent danger of an angry mother bear, it is arguably the most perilous menace to ever face our species and way of life. Participants get an up-to-date look at the state of our environment. How much energy do you use? Are you living beyond the resources of the planet? This workshop helps you see your carbon footprint and learn how to be proactive and visualize the future.
